Aftermath

Nature can be brutal, but there is new growth and life even in the brutality. This painting of a Stegosaurus ungulatus and the visible traces of an encounter it had with a Ceratosaurus was inspired by photos of deer bucks with the stuck and severed heads of their rivals still locked into their antlers, but also by a photo from Emanuele Biggi, of an iguana peeking out through the head of a dead sea lion washed ashore in Peru. I’ve referenced those sources to show that even a severed head stuck to a dinosaur’s tail spikes would have been a refuge and resource to small anurognathid pterosaurs.

Final Painting, with maquette used for posing reference.

Final Render from the blender sculpt.

The sculpture with no posing, showing paint colors and the existing geometry.
